A Simple Question Led Bright to Islam

Bright, a young man from Ndirande, was going about his daily work in town when he came across the iERA city dawah team. The team was engaged in public outreach, speaking with people about Islam and answering questions. Bright stood nearby watching them with curiosity until one of the brothers invited him to come closer and learn more about what they were doing.

The brothers explained that they were giving dawah by sharing the teachings of Islam and helping to remove common misunderstandings about the religion. They told him that many people wrongly believe that Islam is a religion of war, and they were there to explain the true message of Islam. They also encouraged him to ask any questions he had. Bright took the opportunity and asked, “Why do Muslims remove their shoes before entering the masjid?”

The outreach team explained that the masjid is a holy place of worship and that Muslims are taught to keep themselves and their places of worship clean. Removing shoes is a sign of respect and cleanliness. The answer impressed Bright and made him even more interested in learning about Islam. He continued listening carefully as the brothers spoke about faith, worship, and the belief in one Creator.

After the discussion, Bright asked, “How can a person become a Muslim? Can I become a Muslim today?” The brothers explained that becoming a Muslim begins with believing in one Creator—the One who created all people—and worshipping Him alone. They then explained the Shahadah, the declaration of faith. After hearing the message and understanding its meaning, Bright felt convinced and said, “Then I am ready to become a Muslim.” Alhamdulillah, he took his Shahadah that day and began his journey as a Muslim.
