Alhamdulillah, during our dawah outreach in Mexico City, Allah opened the door to an unexpected and inspiring conversation with Meggy Salgado, a member of the Mexican Parliament.
The meeting began by chance as she noticed our team and warmly welcomed us to her country. Reflecting on his first visit to Mexico, one of our brothers shared how impressed he had been by the kindness and hospitality of the Mexican people. Congresswoman Salgado smiled and agreed, explaining that Mexico is a nation that embraces visitors from every part of the world and believes that people of all backgrounds should seek what they have in common rather than focus on their differences.
That shared commitment to unity provided the perfect opportunity to introduce the mission of the Islamic Education and Research Academy (iERA). The team explained that their goal is to build bridges between people by sharing the message of Islam with wisdom and respect.
As a gift, the congresswoman was presented with a Spanish translation of the Qur’an. She shared that she had already read parts of the Qur’an in the past, making the conversation even more engaging. The team encouraged her to read Surah Maryam (Chapter 19), which beautifully describes the life of Mary (peace be upon her) and explains the Islamic understanding of Jesus (peace be upon him).

The discussion then turned to one of the most important principles in Islam: while Muslims deeply love and honour Jesus as one of the greatest messengers of Allah, they worship Allah alone and do not believe Jesus to be God or the son of God. Despite theological differences, both sides agreed that Muslims and Christians have many shared values and should work together for the benefit of humanity instead of allowing division to prevail.
The conversation concluded with a heartfelt reminder that all people belong to one human family. Regardless of nationality, race, or religion, we all share the same humanity and should stand together in helping one another and striving for justice and peace.
Alhamdulillah, the meeting ended on a positive note. A valuable new connection was established, and the congresswoman accepted the Qur’an with appreciation. In shaa Allah, this relationship will continue to grow, with hopes of inviting her to visit the local masjid and learn more about Islam. May Allah open her heart to His guidance and make this sincere exchange a means of goodness for her and for many others. Ameen.
