We were searching for even one soul who might be willing to listen

The sun was blazing, and the dust of the savannah stung our eyes. The iERA Tanzania team had just finished preaching. Our feet were tired, but our hearts were full of hope. We were searching for even one soul who might be willing to listen.

Then suddenly, we saw him a young man, not yet 28 years old. His clothes were torn, and he held a shepherd’s stick in his hands. His name was Morisi. When he saw us, he gave a small smile and said, “I have nothing to give you. I am poor.”

We sat with him in the grass. There was no long speech. We simply told him about the One God, how He created us, how He cares for us even when we are far from Him, and how His mercy is greater than this entire desert.

He became quiet. His eyes began to fill with tears. “You mean God can hear me even here in the wilderness?” he asked softly. “Yes, brother,” we replied. “He can hear you, even your breath right now.” Silence followed as the wind gently moved the grass around us.

Then he stood up and took a deep breath. “If that is true… then I want to know Him too. Show me the way.” And there, beneath the blazing sun and surrounded by dust, Morisi declared the Shahada. His voice trembled, but his words carried the strength of a heart that had just discovered hope
