AFCON 2024: Dawah at the Opening ceremony at Anyama

On 13th January, the day of the opening ceremony to the African Cup of Nations tournament, the iERA team set of to a town by the name Anyama.

When we arrived at the location, the volunteers were arriving in their numbers and we immediately began the dawah training session.

We did not deem it fit to wait for a long time before starting because there was already a large crowd close to the stadium who needed to hear the message of Islam.

Our team leader Nouridne El Khalawi introduced the mission of iERA to the locals and it was a welcoming moment for us to get to know each other well.

Nourridine quickly took them through the GORAP method in the French language and the class was a very interactive one.

After Zuhr, we went straight into the crowd and started explaining the ‘WHAT’S YOUR GOAL’ card to them and the message was a direct one.

A lot of people were very receptive and some even decided they will reach out to the Ivorian volunteers when their minds are made up on Islam.

It was a vibrant day because we were able to reach out to over a thousand people.

At the end of the day, we had one Shahadah and it was a blessing that someone was convinced in the heat of that moment.

The moment when the only thing on everybody’s mind was how to get a ticket to watch the game.

We began the campaign from noon to sunset.

It was a great start to what was coming next.
