Many of us are raised in a particular faith, following the traditions and beliefs passed down through generations. But what happens when those beliefs start to feel incomplete? This is the story of a man, let’s call him Michael, who embarked on a journey to find a faith that resonated with his soul.
Michael was born into a Christian household, his parents devout Catholics. He followed the faith throughout his childhood, but as he grew older, questions began to form in his mind. The concept of the trinity troubled him, and certain church practices felt off. He sought answers from his parents, but their explanations failed to satisfy his growing curiosity. Doubts about established traditions, holidays, and rituals swirled within him, leading him to question his entire belief system.
Driven by a yearning for truth, Michael embarked on a personal quest. It was during this search that his paths crossed with our duats in Zambia. As they were conducting their daily dawah, sharing the message of Islam, its when they met Michael. They struck up a conversation, and started talking expalining the Islamic concept of Allah, the one and only God. The idea resonated with Michael, and he readily acknowledged Allah’s existence and oneness.
As conversation flowed, and they next delved into the concept of revelation and the Quran. He was able to understand why Muslims believe it’s the unaltered word of God, the ultimate source of truth revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). But out of curisoty, Michael interjected with a question: “Who is Muhammad?” This provided a perfect segue into explaining the Islamic perspective on prophets. The duats explained how Muslims believe in all messengers of Allah, including Jesus, who was a prophet, not the son of God.
Michael listened intently, and upon hearing this explanation, a sense of recognition dawned on him. He exclaimed, “This is it! This is the religion I’ve been searching for!” The simplicity and directness of Islamic beliefs about God’s existence and oneness resonated deeply with him.
Right there, Michael decided to embrace Islam. He recited his Shahadah, the declaration of faith, marking the beginning of his journey as a Muslim. He has since diligently studied the religion, immersing himself in its core tenets and practices.
Michael’s experience is a beautiful reminder that the human spirit craves truth. It exemplifies the power of seeking answers and the joy of finding them in the beauty of Islam.
