Nouman bn Bahir narrates that The Prophet ﷺ says that the parable of those that respect the limits of Allah and those that violate them is that of two groups of people who bordered a ship and the first group settled on the upper deck while the second group on the lower deck. Anytime those on those on the upper deck needed water, they had to ask those on the upper deck for water.
Soon, they said to themselves ‘we always disturb those on the upper deck by asking for water while we have a lot of water beneath us, why don’t we simply make a whole in the ground to have water anytime we wanted.
The Prophet ﷺ added that if those on the upper deck do not stop those on the lower deck from the foolishness, then they will all drown but if they stop them, then all of them will be safe.
Sahih Bukhari 2493
From the hadith above, we can decipher that people are of two groups, those that act as guards for those who violate the guidance and rules that have been sent down by Allah.
If all the people on the surface of the earth are to disobey the rules of the Creator, then the punishment of Allah will fall on everyone.
As long as there are people that are calling people to do good, then the punishment of Allah is going to be withheld from us.
This Hadith is meant to strengthen us as Duat (Callers to Islam) calling people towards the guidance of Islam to know that, at all cost, the message of Islam must be propagated.
The Prophet ﷺ has said that this affair of (Islam) will enter every home made of mud or thatched.
When we find ourselves calling people to the light of Islam, it is further incumbent upon us to know that we have been carefully selected by the owner of the universe to do the work he cherishes the most.
It is not befitting of a da’ee (caller to Islam) to regard any other profession as a superior one to what he or she is doing. This is because, the world is running on our calling, which in this hadith refers us to those on the upper deck.
So, whenever you feel despondent with regards to progress in this line of work, know that Allah creates ease after every difficulty.
