Queensland Dawah Tables – iERA New Zealand Team.

Australia, known for its stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and multicultural society, is home to over 25 million people. While the nation is often celebrated for its inclusivity, Muslims represent a small minority, making up only 1.3% of the total population in the South Pacific region. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity for the Muslim community to engage in meaningful dialogues about Islam, fostering understanding and building bridges within society.

iERA team in the region has establishment Dawah tables, where dedicated volunteers come together to share the message of Islam with those curious to learn. Through this initiative, led by iERA New Zealand team and a network of passionate local volunteers, the Islamic community in Australia is making strides in spreading knowledge, promoting peace, and helping new Muslims embrace their faith.

The journey of Dawah tables in Australia began in June 2024, when a group of individuals decided to formalize their Dawah efforts under the iERA banner. Prior to this, many were engaged in independent outreach activities, but by coming together, they created a more organized and impactful approach. Their mission was simple yet profound: to compassionately and intelligently share Islam.

Strategic locations has been key to the success of the Dawah tables. Set up in high-traffic areas such as Queen Street Mall and the Commonwealth Bank in Brisbane’s CBD, as well as popular markets like Redcliffe, Caboolture, Woodridge, and the Sunshine Coast, the tables provided the perfect opportunity for engagement. One of the key to a successfull Dawah table is to position yourself or the team in busy public spaces, were volunteers can connect with people from all walks of life, answering questions about Islam, distributing Qurans, and offering educational materials.

Beyond Brisbane, the Dawah team has expanded to other key locations like Gold Coast Surfers Paradise, where they continue to spread the message of Islam with locals and tourists. The volunteers are not just focused on handing out literature; they engage in deep, meaningful conversations about Islam, life’s purpose, and the core teachings of Islam. These interactions create lasting impressions and often spark deeper interest in Islam.

In just a few months, the impact has been remarkable. The Brisbane Dawah Team has distributed over 528 Qurans and Dawah materials, engaging in 228 conversations about Islam, leading to 27 Shahadahs. These numbers tell part of the story, but the true impact lies in the personal transformations and the bridges built within the community. Each Shahadah represents a new Muslim embarking on a spiritual journey, supported by a dedicated team ready to guide them.

Despite the progress, the team has also face several challenges. One of the main difficulties is securing permits for Dawah stalls, especially in areas like the Gold Coast, where local regulations can be tough to navigate. Establishing formal New Muslim Support programs in all areas has also been a challenge, primarily due to logistical constraints and the need for more resources. Funding for Dawah materials and activities is another ongoing hurdle, as the team often operates on limited resources.

Nevertheless, these challenges have only strengthened their resolve. One of the team’s most significant triumphs has been the formation of United Dawah Queensland, an initiative that brings together various Dawah efforts across the state under a unified structure. This collaboration with iERA has streamlined their operations, allowing them to cover large geographical areas more effectively by dividing Queensland into four key regions—North, Central, East, and South—with each area led by a dedicated regional lead.

Looking ahead, the future of Dawah tables in Australia is full of potential. Plans to expand in the Gold Coast are underway, alongside efforts to strengthen current stalls and secure more permits. Weekly New Muslim Support classes are being set up in various locations, and partnerships with local mosques, such as Kuraby and Rochdale, are being established to enhance outreach efforts. Additionally, the team is organizing regular Dawah training workshops to empower more volunteers to carry out this noble mission.

One of the most exciting upcoming initiatives is the iERA New Zealand tour of Queensland, which will further galvanize the Dawah movement in Australia, bringing fresh energy and ideas to the growing network. The team is also focused on deepening their connections within the community by working closely with schools, universities, and other institutions to spread the message of Islam in an approachable and engaging manner.

Through Allah’s guidance and the tireless efforts of its volunteers, the Brisbane Dawah Team has become a beacon of light in Australia’s Muslim community. Their work is not only helping to dispel misconceptions about Islam but also opening hearts and minds to the faith. The future of Dawah in Australia looks bright, and with each new conversation, connection, and Shahadah, the team is one step closer to achieving their goal of fostering understanding, unity, and peace across the South Pacific.
