Over 100 People Embrace Islam in Papua New Guinea.

Over 100 people embraced Islam in Gulf Province, Papua New Guinea, marking a significant milestone for the local community and the Islamic Society of Papua New Guinea (PNG). This extraordinary transformation was the result of a dedicated Dawah initiative led by Imam Ismael, the National Imam of the Islamic Society of PNG.

The journey to this remarkable day began with the inspiring story of a local villager named Zukarnain. While working in a rubber plantation, he encountered the teachings of Islam through one of our local Daees (Islamic teachers). Zukarnain’s heart was ignited by the message of monotheism and the values of compassion and justice inherent in Islamic teachings. Deeply moved, he felt a strong desire to share this newfound faith with his community.

Responding to Zukarnain’s passionate call, our team organized a week-long Dawah program in the village. We mobilized dedicated Daees and scholars to engage with the local population, providing a space for open discussions about Islam. The program focused on essential aspects such as the oneness of God, the importance of community, and the profound moral teachings of the Quran.

On that historic day, the atmosphere was electric as community members gathered, eager to learn and engage. The heartfelt discussions and teachings resonated deeply with the attendees, leading to a collective moment of acceptance. Over 100 individuals, filled with hope and inspiration, declared there Shahada in a powerful demonstration of their commitment to Islam.

Following this unprecedented event, our commitment to supporting these new Muslims did not end. Recognizing the importance of nurturing their faith, we initiated training sessions to teach them the fundamentals of Islam. This included lessons on prayer, understanding the Quran, and embracing the values that Islam promotes, such as kindness, compassion, and social responsibility.

To further ensure sustainable growth within the community, we identified three promising individuals who showed great potential and dedication. These brothers were selected to undergo additional training at the National Mosque in Port Moresby, preparing them to return as the first local Imams of Gulf Province. Their leadership will be instrumental in guiding their community in understanding and practicing Islam.

Currently, the community lacks a mosque and often gathers in open spaces for prayers. However, the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by the new Muslims signal a bright future for Islam in Gulf Province. We are optimistic about establishing a dedicated place of worship, where the community can come together to pray and learn.

Alhamdulillah, witnessing over 100 people embrace Islam in a single day is a testament to the power of faith and the impact of Dawah. This event serves as a reminder of the transformative potential of sharing the teachings of Islam with those seeking spiritual fulfillment. As we continue to support and guide these new Muslims on their journey, we look forward to building a strong and thriving Muslim community in Gulf Province and beyond.
