Allahu Akbar! The journey of the Aeta Muslim community in Angeles, Pampanga, is nothing short of inspiring. In a region where not a single Muslim voice could once be heard, nor a mosque seen, the community has now embraced the message of Islam, transforming the area into a hub of faith and hope. This was as a result of iERA’s continuous efforts across Asia and Oceania and the dedication of Outreach Specialists and volunteers, who brought the message of La ilaha illallah, Muhammad Rasulullah to these hearts.
The Aeta people, a resilient and deeply-rooted indigenous group, initially welcomed the message of Islam with open hearts and minds. The first step on their path to faith was understanding Tawheed—the oneness of Allah—through the guidance of iERA’s dedicated teams. These efforts went beyond simply conveying knowledge; they nurtured an environment of sincerity, trust, and unity within the community. Embracing Islam not only transformed their beliefs but also laid a foundation of peace and purpose that strengthened their bonds with one another.
A landmark achievement in this journey was the donation of land by the Aeta themselves to construct a mosque. In the beginning, prayers were held under a modest tent, which served as a makeshift musallah, or prayer space. This humble gathering place marked the early days of the community’s commitment, where each prayer and gathering reinforced their unity and hope for a more established place of worship.
The dream of a completed mosque was one shared by every member of the community but was perhaps most deeply held by a particular Aeta Muslim mother. She envisioned a place where future generations could pray and learn about their faith in an environment that felt like home—a place that embodied their beliefs and served as a beacon for other Aeta and non-Muslims curious about Islam.
With every donation, large or small, the mosque structure is raising further, and the community’s faith and sense of unity is growing stronger. Alhamdulillah, many brothers and sisters from around the world have given their sadaqah generously, supporting this vision and helping to bring this dream closer to reality. For each brick laid and each beam raised, the Aeta community saw evidence of the support and love from a broader Muslim family.
iERA’s work in Asia and Oceania, from the deep mountains of Wainibuka Tailevu in Fiji to the remote villages of the Philippines, reflects a mission of dedication, and respect for the people it serves.
This story of the Aeta community in Pampanga serves as a testament to the power of outreach and to the resilience of communities who, even in the face of initial absence and isolation, find strength in faith and in each other.
For those who have helped and continue to contribute to this remarkable journey, we say, Jazakumullahu khayran. May Allah bless and reward each person who has given their time, resources, and prayers to make this possible.
