From Guarding Gates to Guarding Faith: The Story of Lloyd Magareta

Every soul has a journey, and sometimes the path to truth begins in the most unexpected places.

Meet Lloyd Magareta. Born into Christianity, Lloyd spent years faithfully attending church. Yet as time passed, unanswered doubts weighed heavily on his heart. Slowly, his faith faded. He stopped attending church altogether and, eventually, abandoned the belief that God even existed.

Life moved on. Lloyd worked as a security guard, and one day, his job led him to a new posting—the iERA Malawi office, a place dedicated to spreading the message of Islam. To Lloyd, it was just another gate to open, another night to guard. But behind those walls, Allah had written a different plan for him.

As days turned into weeks, Lloyd grew familiar with the faces at the office. Always polite, always professional—he was doing his duty. Until one evening, a conversation changed everything.

Omar Hakeem, a member of the iERA Malawi media team, had often noticed the guard. With sincerity, he approached him and asked a simple question:

“Which religion do you follow?”

Lloyd’s reply was honest:  “I used to go to church, but I stopped. Now, I don’t go anywhere.”

That was the opening. Omar gently shared the message of Islam, explaining the beauty of worshiping the One true God. Lloyd listened attentively. Though he didn’t embrace Islam that very day, something had been planted in his heart.

Months passed, and then came the unexpected call. It was Lloyd. This time, he wasn’t guarding a gate—he was seeking guidance. He wanted to understand more about Islam. Omar met him, explained the truth of Allah’s religion, and with clarity came conviction. In that moment, Lloyd declared the Shahada and embraced Islam.

Today, Lloyd is no longer just a night guard; he is a man who guards his faith with dedication. Before reporting for his night shift, he first stops at the masjid to pray Asr. With a prayer mat gifted to him, he bows in worship daily, walking the path of a practicing Muslim.

From doubt to belief, from darkness to light—Lloyd’s story is a reminder that guidance can reach a person wherever Allah wills, even at the gates of an office.
May Allah keep him steadfast, strengthen his iman, and guide him always.
