As a lady who had been a devout Christian for most of her life, I had always been taught that Jesus was the Son of God, and that he was God incarnate. I had never questioned this teaching, and I had always believed that anyone who didn’t believe in Jesus’ divinity was misguided. So, when I saw the brothers from Iera Ghana holding a flyer with Jesus on it, I was immediately skeptical. I thought to myself, “Why are they, of all people, talking about Jesus? Don’t they know that he’s God?”
I politely declined to engage with them, thinking that they were just misinformed. But they were persistent, and they continued to share with me the Islamic perspective on Jesus. At first, I was resistant, but as they spoke, I began to listen. They shared with me verses from the Bible and the Quran that spoke of Jesus as a prophet and messenger, rather than the Son of God.

One of the brothers shared with me a verse from the Quran that said, “And [mention] when the angels said, ‘O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good news of a word from Him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah].'” (Quran 3:45)
He explained to me that in Islam, Jesus is considered a prophet and a messenger, and that he was sent to guide the children of Israel. He also shared with me a verse from the Bible, “The Father is greater than I” (John 14:28), which suggests that Jesus himself did not claim to be God.
As I listened to their explanations, something began to shift in my heart. I realized that I had been taught a certain narrative about Jesus, but I had never truly explored the Islamic perspective. I began to see Jesus in a new light, as a prophet and messenger, rather than the Son of God.
I was amazed by the beauty and simplicity of the Islamic message, and I felt a sense of peace wash over me. I realized that I had been living in ignorance, and that I had been denying the true message of Jesus.
I thanked the brothers from Iera Ghana for sharing with me the truth about Jesus, and I asked them to teach me more about Islam. They were overjoyed, and we spent hours discussing the faith. I eventually accepted Islam, and it has been a journey of discovery and growth ever since.
Looking back, I realize that my initial reaction was based on misconceptions and a lack of understanding. But the brothers from Iera Ghana showed me kindness, patience, and compassion, and they shared with me the truth about Jesus. I am grateful for their efforts, and I hope that my story can inspire others to seek the truth and to approach others with kindness and understanding.
