The Story of a Surprised Christian

On one of our Da’wah outings, a Christian man stopped in his tracks when he saw us sharing pamphlets and speaking to people. With wide eyes, he exclaimed in disbelief, “But this is evangelism! I thought only Christians do this!”

Curious, he drew closer, and our Da’i engaged him in conversation. The moment we mentioned Jesus Christ (peace be upon him), his surprise deepened. “Wait—you’re Muslims, why are you talking about Jesus? That belongs to the Christians,” he said with certainty.

Patiently, our Da’i explained that Muslims believe in not only Jesus, but also Moses, Abraham, Noah, and all the prophets who came before. He shared how Islam sees them as messengers of the One God, delivering the same message of monotheism throughout history.

The man was gobsmacked. He leaned in, listening carefully as more of Islam’s beliefs were explained—our view of God’s Oneness, the role of prophets, and the continuation of their message through the Qur’an.

When asked if everything made sense, he admitted with a nod, “Yes, it does.” But when invited to take the leap and embrace Islam, his expression softened. “I was born a Christian,” he confessed, “and I still feel some attachment to it. I don’t want to lie about becoming Muslim.”

We asked for his contact to keep in touch, but he politely declined. His hesitation was clear—not out of rejection of the truth, but more from the fear that continued conversation might pull him away from the faith he had always known.

Though he walked away, we left that encounter reminded that even a short exchange can plant deep questions in the heart, and Allah is the One who guides.
