In the peaceful village of Munjiwawo, under Traditional Authority Nyezelera in Phalombe District, lives an inspiring woman whose story of faith and perseverance continues to touch hearts — Madam Faney Sande.
Her journey to Islam began many years ago, in 1990, when she accepted Islam together with her husband, who was already a Muslim. At that time, their decision brought joy and unity in their home, and together they raised their children upon the teachings of Islam.
For years, the family lived with love, peace, and a growing understanding of their new faith. Faney found comfort in learning about the Oneness of Allah, the purpose of life, and the beautiful teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
However, in the year 2000, her husband passed away — a moment that tested her strength and faith deeply. Many people around her thought that, without her husband, she would return to her old ways or abandon Islam. But they were wrong.
Instead of turning back, Faney Sande became even stronger in her faith. She continued practicing Islam with deep conviction, knowing that she had found the truth. She understood that Islam was not her husband’s religion — it was her faith, the truth she had chosen with her own heart.

Even in her widowhood, she stood firm, wearing her hijab with pride and continuing her prayers faithfully. Her neighbors and relatives watched her steadfastness with admiration. Through her good character, patience, and devotion, she became a shining example for her entire extended family.
Over the years, her commitment to Islam inspired many of her relatives and people around her to also embrace the faith. Today, most of her family members are Muslims — a lasting result of her strength and unwavering belief.
Many in her community still talk about her courage, saying,
> “Even after her husband died, she never turned away from Islam. She stood firm because she knew what was true and what was false.”
Through her example, people learned that faith should not depend on another person — it should be rooted in conviction and love for Allah alone.
Faney Sande often said, “I entered Islam, and I will leave this world as a Muslim.” Her words became a reflection of her deep faith and hope that she would return to Allah as a believer.
