From Guidance to Guarding the Nation: The Story of Brother Dabson

Brother Dabson Daka’s journey to Islam is a story of purpose discovered and direction renewed. Raised in a non-Muslim background in Zambia, Islam was largely unknown to him for much of his life. Like many young people, his focus was on everyday survival, personal ambitions, and navigating life’s challenges, with little opportunity to reflect deeply on spiritual guidance or the greater purpose of existence.

This changed when he encountered the IERA duʿāt during an outreach activity. Through calm, patient, and thoughtful conversations, they introduced him to the core message of Islam. They spoke about the oneness of Allah, the purpose of life, accountability in the Hereafter, and the noble character of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Their sincerity and gentle approach resonated deeply with Dabson, opening his heart to ideas he had never seriously considered before.

After a period of reflection and further discussions, Dabson recognized that Islam provided clear and satisfying answers to the questions he had long carried within himself. With humility and conviction, he chose to embrace the faith and took the shahādah, marking the beginning of a new chapter grounded in belief, purpose, and responsibility.

Since accepting Islam, Brother Dabson has demonstrated noticeable positive change. He became more disciplined and focused, striving to observe his prayers and live by Islamic values such as honesty, patience, respect, and accountability. Islam gave him structure in his daily life and a sense of inner peace that strengthened his character and outlook.

Grateful for the guidance he received, Dabson developed a strong passion for daʿwah. He began volunteering alongside IERA Zambia specialists, sharing the message of Islam and his personal journey with others. His sincerity and lived experience made his daʿwah relatable, especially as he reached out to those closest to him, including his family, hoping they too would discover the truth he had embraced.

Driven by a desire to serve and protect his community, Brother Dabson later joined the military. He views this role as an extension of his values, guided by Islamic principles of justice, integrity, discipline, and service to society. His faith has reinforced the self-control and responsibility required in military life, helping him carry out his duties with professionalism and integrity.

Brother Dabson’s story is a powerful reminder that guidance comes from Allah alone, and that sincere daʿwah delivered with wisdom and compassion can transform lives. His journey shows that Islam not only shapes belief but also nurtures individuals who are committed to service, responsibility, and positive contribution to their nation and community.
