Leading by example: When actions ignite a movement

In the luminous life of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, countless moments shine as timeless lessons for humanity. One such moment stands out—not for the number of words spoken, but for the power of an action taken.

During the journey of Hudaybiyyah, the Prophet ﷺ and his companions were stopped just outside Makkah, unable to complete the pilgrimage they had intended. A treaty was signed with the Quraysh, postponing their Hajj for the following year. Though peaceful, the decision was deeply disappointing to many of the companions. Their hearts ached to perform the sacred rites.

After the treaty, the Prophet ﷺ instructed his companions to shave their heads and end the state of Ihram. But overcome with sorrow, not one companion moved. It was not defiance—it was heartbreak and hesitation.

Seeing this, Umm Salama, the noble wife of the Prophet ﷺ, wisely advised him,

“O Messenger of Allah, go out and do not speak a word to anyone until you have shaved your head.”

And so, he did. Quietly, purposefully, the Prophet ﷺ shaved his head. The moment his companions saw this, they all rushed to follow. The atmosphere shifted. Leadership had spoken—not in words, but in action.

🌟 iERA Tanzania: Walking in the Footsteps of Prophetic Leadership

This profound principle of leadership through action is alive today in the example set by our iERA Tanzania team. Our leaders don’t just instruct—they step forward first. Whether it’s enduring the scorching sun in remote villages, engaging respectfully with people of different faiths, or standing resilient through rainstorms while giving da’wah, they embody the prophetic legacy of doing before directing.

They are the first to knock on doors.
The first to set up tents.
The first to engage with seekers.
They are the first to sacrifice their comfort for the sake of the mission.

Their presence is a sermon. Their sincerity, contagious. Their example, magnetic.

💫 The Ripple Effect of Righteous Leadership

True leadership doesn’t depend on titles or authority—it emerges from sincerity, courage, and presence. When a leader acts with humility and devotion, it ignites a ripple effect. Volunteers work harder. Teams become more united. Hearts become more inspired.

Whether in da’wah, education, or social service, people don’t just follow orders—they follow examples. The leader who prays first, who listens more than speaks, who gives from what they love—that is the leader who changes hearts and communities.

Just as the Prophet ﷺ’s simple act of shaving his head sparked obedience and unity, our leaders today remind us that the most powerful way to lead is by example.
