The Blind Daee Who Illuminates Hearts

In the quiet village of Madziabango, Blantyre, a child was born in 1974 into a family of eight. His name was Mussah Michongwe — a name that would one day echo through villages, marketplaces, and hearts across the region.

In 2002, Mussah embraced Islam. It was more than a change of faith; it was a transformation of purpose. He sought truth with a burning desire, and once he found it, he held it with unwavering conviction.

A few years later, after a brief period working in South Africa, life tested him in an unimaginable way. In 2008, he lost his sight.

For many, darkness would have meant despair.

For Mussah, it became the beginning.

Though blind, his insight deepened. In Lilongwe, he immersed himself in Bible study, understanding Christian theology — not to argue, but to engage wisely. Simultaneously, he pursued Islamic knowledge through one-on-one tutorship with learned sheikhs. Allah blessed him with an extraordinary memory: verses and concepts settled in his heart and mind effortlessly. What would take others months to memorize, he grasped in days.

His passion for dawah simmered for years, but in 2020, he fully stepped into the field — volunteering purely for the sake of Allah.

In 2022, when iERA visited Madziabango, something ignited within him. The encounter with the duaat inspired him to dedicate his entire life to calling people to Islam. Even before officially joining, he was assisting teams, helping bring more shahadas through his calm, confident, and powerful public speaking.

In 2023, he officially joined iERA in T/A Kunthembwe.

Since then, this blind daee has walked from village to village — reaching nearly 30 villages and 7 GVHs in T/A Kunthembwe and Kuntaja. Though he cannot see the faces before him, he senses the doubts in their voices, the hesitation in their tone. With precision, compassion, and unwavering confidence, he addresses hearts directly.

Through his efforts, approximately 8,000 shahadas have been recorded.

Yet numbers alone cannot capture his impact.

When he speaks, crowds gather. Non-Muslims lean in. His voice carries conviction. His explanations of verses are vivid and structured. He compares scriptures with depth and clarity, answering objections with firmness, humility, and warmth. On average, nearly 98% of attendees accept Islam within a week of engagement.

A man who lost his sight now gives vision to thousands.
A man who walked through personal darkness now brings light to entire communities.

Mussah Michongwe is not defined by blindness. He is defined by purpose. By resilience. By sincerity.

In villages across Malawi, when people speak of the blind daee whose words open hearts, they speak of him — a servant who turned hardship into honor, and darkness into dawah.
