“Silent Voices, Powerful Message: Uganda’s Deaf Muslims Trained for Da’wah”

A remarkable chapter in Uganda’s da’wah movement has just begun.

For the first time, a dedicated training program has been launched to empower members of the deaf community with the tools and knowledge to convey the message of Islam.

Organized by the iERA Uganda team, this three-day workshop—held within a local deaf institution—marks a milestone in inclusive outreach efforts, ensuring that no segment of the Ummah is left behind in the call to Allah.

The opening day was charged with purpose and hope. The iERA delegation, led by Regional Manager Brother Arshad, Country Manager Brother Muhammad, and the team’s Education Officer, arrived prepared not only to teach—but to listen, to engage, and to uplift.

Addressing the room with the aid of interpreters, Brother Muhammad delivered a stirring message on the virtue of da’wah. He reminded the participants that this responsibility—once carried by prophets—is now inherited by every Muslim.

“Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent as a mercy to all of mankind,” he said. “The reward for guiding someone to the truth is immeasurable in the sight of Allah.” His words, conveyed through sign language, reached hearts beyond sound.

For Brother Arshad, this was a deeply personal moment. Speaking to a deaf audience for the first time, he expressed his admiration for their enthusiasm and discipline. “It’s an honor to witness such eagerness to serve the Deen,” he said. “Da’wah can be challenging, but at its core, it’s about recognizing your Creator and helping others do the same.”

Over the coming days, the participants will explore the fundamentals of Islamic belief, the GORAP da’wah framework, and how to navigate discussions with empathy and wisdom—all through customized instruction that respects their communication needs. More than a training, this is an invitation to purpose; a means of turning silence into strength.

This initiative isn’t just transformative for the deaf community—it’s transformative for the da’wah landscape in Uganda. It reflects the prophetic model of reaching people where they are, with compassion, inclusivity, and unwavering belief in their potential.

May Allah grant these new ambassadors of Islam success in their mission and open hearts through their unique voices. Ameen.
