United in faith: The story of Abdallah and Lauha’s embrace of Islam

As the month of June drew to a close, the vibrant rhythm of da’wah continued to beat strong across the Ugandan heartland.

In one quiet village classroom, where iERA Uganda regularly holds support sessions for new Muslims, a story of love, conviction, and divine guidance began to unfold—one that would not only change a man’s life but uplift an entire family.

Among the attendees of the new Muslim class was Nesitol, a man whose quiet demeanor concealed a soul in deep contemplation. For two weeks, he had been attending the sessions, listening intently to lessons about Islam—particularly the core message of Tawheed, the oneness of God.

These teachings began to unsettle long-held beliefs rooted in his Catholic background. He had grown up believing in the Trinity, a complex theological concept he had accepted without much question. But the straightforward, logical message of Islam—that God is One, without partners or equals—stirred something within him.

What moved him most was learning how even Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), whom he had previously worshipped as divine, was actually a revered messenger in Islam who worshipped the same One God. This revelation unlocked a new dimension of truth that challenged what he had always believed—and reshaped it.

But Nesitol’s journey wasn’t to be walked alone.

After class one day, driven by a sense of urgency and clarity, he left quietly. Not to abandon the path, but to extend it—to someone else. He returned the next day, not alone, but hand-in-hand with his wife. Her name was Layize, a devout born-again Christian who had stood by him in faith for years. Now, she too stood beside him—ready to explore a faith that was beginning to open his eyes and heart.

He had already begun teaching her what he learned, gently explaining the principles of Islam, and telling her about the peace he had found. She listened, pondered, and came to the class with questions—but also with growing conviction.

As the session unfolded, their shared desire became undeniable.

In a moment filled with serenity and spiritual clarity, they stood together and pronounced the Shahada, the declaration of faith, side by side. It wasn’t just a conversion; it was a union of hearts and purpose—a couple taking their first steps into Islam together.

From that day forward, Nesitol became Abdallah, meaning “servant of Allah,” and Layize chose the name Lauha, a new identity symbolizing a new beginning. Their transformation echoed far beyond the classroom walls, becoming a powerful symbol of how da’wah, delivered with sincerity and patience, can change hearts—and families.

Their story is more than a personal triumph. It is a testament to the timeless beauty of Islam and the role of iERA Uganda in lighting the path for countless souls seeking the truth. Through heartfelt conversations, community support, and genuine care, the message of Islam continues to spread—one heart, one home at a time.
