Uthuman’s Journey From Drunkenness To Islam’s Path.

In the heart of the village, everyone knew Saluuzi. Better known by his nickname “Topten,” he was a man whose presence was usually announced by the scent of local brew and a heavy, stumbling gait. To many, he was a lost cause—a man who had traded his dignity for the temporary numbness of alcohol.

But behind the drunken haze lay a heart scarred by rejection.

Saluuzi hadn’t always been a drunkard. His spiral began years ago when life dealt him a series of crushing blows. Seeking a lifeline, he turned to his local church, hoping for the spiritual and communal support he desperately needed. Instead, he found closed doors and cold shoulders. Feeling abandoned by the very institution that preached compassion, Saluuzi’s faith shattered. He didn’t just lose his religion; he lost his hope.

“If God’s people won’t help me,” he reasoned, “then maybe God isn’t there at all.” He turned to the bottle to drown the silence of his unanswered prayers.

Everything changed the day he crossed paths with a team of iERA Duats. While others walked past Topten with judgment, these travelers stopped to listen. They didn’t see a “village drunk”; they saw a man in pain.

Saluuzi poured out his ordeal, narrating the abandonment he felt and the addiction that had since swallowed his life. The Duats listened with empathy, then shared a perspective that shook him to his core:

The Nature of Allah: They assured him that Allah is the Almighty, the Most Merciful, who provides a solution for every burden.

The Prophetic Path: They explained that Islam is not just a set of labels, but a “step-by-step” Way of Life that mirrors the actions and discipline of the Prophets, men who faced immense trials but found strength through submission to the Creator.

The message resonated deeply. For the first time in years, Saluuzi felt a sense of relief that no amount of alcohol could provide. He realized that while men and institutions might fail, the Creator does not.

In a moment that stunned the village, “Topten” stood tall, cleared his mind, and took his Shahada (the testimony of faith). To mark his clean slate and his new journey of discipline and truth, he chose a new name: Uthman.

Today, the man once known for his addiction is known for his devotion. Uthman has traded the bottle for the prayer mat, proving that no matter how far one wanders, the path of the Prophets is always open for those seeking the way home.
