Finding Faith in the Land of Tequila: An Unexpected Journey.

Have you ever felt a silent, insistent prompting from within, guiding you down an unfamiliar path? This is the story of a brother in Mexico, a journey not to the bustling tequila town he had planned, but to something far more profound.

Tequila is a town in Mexico, over 2 hours away from Guadalajara, where most of the tequila of the region is produced and no muslims lived. This brother came to Guadalajara chasing his provision from Allah. He took the bus, travelled more than 2 hours, then took the subway 🚇 hoping to then get a bus in order to get to his destination to buy stuff he needs for his business.

That day he was a bit sad thinking about his way of life and how automatic it is sometimes. He was silently asking in his mind, to his Creator to allow him to find something that could improve his way of life, to give him a higher purpose.

Little did he know, Allah had a different plan. A whisper in his soul prompted him to disembark at an unexpected subway stop, leading him straight into the arms of our Dawah team, stationed there due to unforeseen circumstances.

That day we were doing dawah on the exit of the subway station (outside of the dawah centre too) a place we weren’t supposed to, because our usual venue was unavailable. So his plans and our plans were unusual but Allah plans best.

As he passed by, a volunteer extended a leaflet titled “El Coran.” The moment his eyes met the title, time seemed to stop.

I have been looking for the Quran for over 30 years since i was a kid. He said.

This was a beacon of light that had been flickering in his heart for over three decades. Ever since he was a child, he had yearned to learn about Islam and meet Muslims, but life had always seemed to get in the way.

Tears welled up in his eyes as he shared his story, his voice thick with emotion. Finally, after all those years of searching, he had found what he had been missing. In that subway station, surrounded by strangers who had become instruments of divine guidance, he took his Shahada, declaring his faith in Islam.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 56 (28:56 Quran).

And so, the brother returned to the land of Tequila, not just with newfound purpose but also with the distinct possibility of being the first Muslim in Tequila. His story is a testament to the boundless power of faith and the mysterious ways in which Allah guides those He wishes to lead. It reminds us that even the most unexpected detours can lead us to the most beautiful destinations, and that sometimes, all it takes is a leap of faith to step onto the path of divine purpose.
