Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good.
Our code of Honor emphasizes a crucial principle: ‘Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good.’
As a team, we recognize that perfectionism can often hinder progress and prevent us from achieving our goals. In our pursuit of excellence, we may get caught up in minor details and feel the need to have every resource and accessory in place before taking action. However, this mindset can lead to procrastination and inaction.
Recently, some of our Outreach Specialists (DUATS) demonstrated the power of embracing this principle. Despite lacking essential equipment like speakers and microphones, they courageously began conducting mass dawah, gathering crowds and successfully guiding people to Shahada with Allah’s grace. This experience taught us that while equipment and resources are important, they shouldn’t hold us back from starting and making progress.
Furthermore, some of our teams have taken this principle to heart by going above and beyond to teach new Muslims, even in unconventional settings. Rather than waiting for the perfect opportunity to gather them in a classroom, they visit new Muslims at their workplaces, adapting to their schedules and circumstances. This approach may not be ideal, but it ensures that valuable guidance and support reach those who need it despite the challenges. By embracing this principle, we’ve seen that the probability of success is higher than the probability of gathering them in a traditional classroom setting.
By adopting this code of honor, we remind ourselves that good is often good enough and that taking action and making progress is more important than waiting for perfect conditions. We strive to balance our pursuit of excellence with a willingness to take calculated risks, adapt to circumstances, and trust in Allah’s guidance and support. By doing so, we can overcome obstacles and reach more people with the message of Islam, even in unexpected ways.
