A few years ago, iERA held the Jesus Exhibition for the first time in Honduras, drawing a large crowd of evangelical preachers and their followers. Among them was a man named Hector.
During the conference, Hector repeatedly questioned the speakers, insisting that Islam promoted hatred toward Christians and Jews. He quoted a single verse of the Qur’an out of context, seeking to prove his point. The team responded calmly, explaining the true message of Islam and reminding him that the answers lay in the Qur’an itself, but that the full surah must be read to understand the proper context.
When Hector insisted that he had already read it, the response was simple: “If you had truly read it with an open heart, you would have understood and would not hold such misconceptions.” The team then gave him a copy of the Qur’an, along with several other books.
Two years later, Hector reached out to the iERA Dawah Centre with a surprising confession. He explained that ever since receiving the Qur’an, he had set out to prove that it promoted hatred. Instead, what he discovered was the opposite: a religion of peace, mercy, and compassion.
Through reading the Qur’an, Hector found the spiritual peace he had been searching for. On that very day, he embraced Islam and declared his shahada. When asked what Islam had brought to his life, Hector’s answer was simple and heartfelt: “Happiness.”
Hector’s story is a reminder that our duty is only to share the message, plant the seed, and trust Allah with the guidance. Often, those who begin as opponents may one day become the most devoted believers.
