Verónica Came Looking for the Qur’an

At the Mexico City Book Fair, a special visitor approached our stand: Verónica had traveled three hours from a remote area just to get a Qur’an in Arabic.

Her request took us by surprise. We assumed she wouldn’t be able to read an Arabic Qur’an, so we offered her one in Spanish instead. But she already had a Spanish Qur’an. That’s when we learned that Verónica had been following our activities online and had read the entire Qur’an.

“Why haven’t you embraced Islam yet?” we asked.

Only one obstacle held her back: the fear of distancing herself from her family.

When we explained that Islam, far from dividing families, brings them together and strengthens them, her doubts vanished. As she pronounced her testimony of faith, she began to cry, just as the Qur’an describes those who recognize the truth:

When they listen to what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because they recognize the truth. They say, ‘Our Lord, we believe, so count us among the witnesses [to the truth of Islam].'” (5:83)

Alhamdulillah, today Verónica is an active participant in groups for new Muslims. She says she feels happy.
