Planting seeds of light: Street dawah with the Mississauga Team — April 19, 2025

Last Saturday, Celebration Square in Mississauga became more than just a gathering place — it became a field where seeds of guidance were planted, Alhamdulillah.

The Mississauga dawah team came together, not just to hand out pamphlets or answer questions, but to fulfill a sacred mission: to invite hearts to Allah ﷻ with wisdom, compassion, and sincerity.

Dawah is more than a conversation.
It’s an act of worship.
It’s a mercy to humanity.
It’s a bridge between the created and their Creator.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ beautifully said:

“Whoever guides someone to goodness will have a reward like the one who does it.” (Muslim)

And on this blessed day, a beautiful encounter unfolded.

A Young Man’s Curiosity

Among the many passersby, a young man — thoughtful, sharp-eyed, and curious — approached the booth.
He looked like a university student, his mind wired for logic and inquiry.

With genuine interest, he asked:

“What are you guys doing here?”

One of our brothers smiled warmly and responded:

“We’re here to share the message of Islam — to invite people to reflect on life’s deeper questions and reconnect with their Creator.”

The young man listened carefully and introduced himself as an atheist — someone who did not believe in any deity.
Yet, there was no hostility in his voice, only openness.
It was as if a door had already begun to crack open.

A Question That Opened the Heart

The brother gently asked:

“Can something come from nothing?”

The young man paused — a rare stillness crossing his features.
After a moment, he answered honestly:

“No… it can’t.”

And with that simple admission, the conversation moved to deeper waters.
Together, they explored:

✅ The necessity of a cause for everything that begins to exist
✅ The rationality behind belief in a Creator
✅ The logical impossibility of infinite regression

As the ideas unfolded, the young man nodded thoughtfully.
He admitted:

“It makes sense that there must be a Creator.”

❓ But Why Islam?

The young man, now genuinely intrigued, asked:

“Even if there is a God, how do I know Islam is the truth?”

The brother, with patience and clarity, shared the powerful evidences of Islam:

📖 The miracle of the Qur’an — preserved word-for-word for over 1,400 years, unmatched in language and depth.
🕊️ The life and character of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — a mercy to the worlds, known even to his enemies for his truthfulness and integrity.
🌱 The fitrah — the natural human inclination toward monotheism, awakened and clarified through Islam’s teachings.

The young man nodded, absorbing it all.
Yet he voiced a concern:

“I’m not really a spiritual person… I’m more into science.”

🔬 Faith and Science: Not Opposed, but United

Smiling, the brother replied:

“That’s exactly why Islam might be perfect for you.”

They spoke about:

🔭 Muslim pioneers of science like Ḥasan Ibn al-Haytham, the father of the scientific method
📜 How the foundations of modern science — observation, hypothesis, testing — trace back to a worldview that recognized order and purpose
🌌 How science relies on unprovable assumptions like causality, order, and logic — principles that make more sense in a universe designed by an Intelligent Creator

“Spirituality isn’t weakness,” he said.
“It’s part of what makes us fully human. And belief in a Creator gives science a purpose beyond just observation — it gives it meaning.”

📘 Planting a Seed for the Future

The young man shared that he was studying aerospace engineering, passionate about precision, order, and structure.

Smiling, the brother told him:

“Then you already understand — precision and beauty in design are not accidents. Read the Qur’an with an open heart. Let it speak to your mind and soul.”

The young man gratefully accepted a copy of the Qur’an and a few introductory pamphlets.
He didn’t take his shahadah that day — but something far greater happened: a seed was planted. 🌱

And Allah ﷻ is the One who causes seeds to grow.

🌟 This Is the Power of Dawah

Dawah isn’t about instant conversions or quick victories.
It’s about building bridges.
Awakening hearts.
Sparking questions that lead souls home.

It is:

A sacred responsibility
The tradition of the Prophets
A light in a world yearning for truth

May Allah accept the efforts of the Mississauga team, multiply their rewards, bless the young man with guidance, and use these efforts as a means of hidayah (guidance) for many more.
Ameen. 🤲
