From student to teacher: How dawah is transforming lives in the Philippines

In the heart of the Philippines, among the Aeta indigenous community, a powerful story of transformation and faith is unfolding.

It’s the story of Nanay Ima—a woman who began her journey into Islam with humble steps and has since become a beacon of guidance for others.

Nanay Ima, like many new Muslims, once stood at the threshold of understanding, eager to grasp the fundamentals of her new faith.

With the dedicated support of iERA’s local team, she not only embraced Islam but flourished in her religious knowledge and practice.

Today, she’s no longer just a student of Islam—she’s a teacher, actively sharing her knowledge by teaching others how to perform wudhu (ablution) and Salah (prayer), the foundations of Muslim worship.

But her journey didn’t stop there.

In a heartfelt act of generosity and devotion known in Islam as Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity), Nanay Ima donated her own land for the establishment of a masjid (mosque).

This masjid is now a sanctuary—a place for new Muslims, especially from her own family and community, to come together to learn, pray, and grow in their faith.

Her selfless actions are not only transforming lives now but are laying down a legacy that will benefit generations to come.

This story is a beautiful example of how empowering new Muslims through education, support, and community building can lead to extraordinary outcomes.

When you support a new Muslim on their journey, you’re not just helping one person—you’re nurturing a ripple effect of faith, service, and transformation.
