Enlightening Minds: A Successful Program on Islam on the streets.

In a bid to foster understanding and dispel misconceptions about Islam, a community outreach program was held at the bustling Accra Mall on 5th October 2024.

The event, organized by the  iERA Ghana team, aimed to enlighten both Muslims and non-Muslims about the core tenets of Islam, its teachings, and its cultural significance.

The program attracted a diverse audience, including families, students, and curious shoppers. Attendees were greeted by enthusiastic volunteers who provided informational pamphlets and engaged passersby in discussions about Islam.

The event featured a series of interactive sessions, including presentations, Q&A , and one-on-one conversations, all designed to address common misconceptions about the faith.

One of the key speakers, Brother Salim Abubakr, emphasized the importance of dialogue in combating ignorance. “Islam is often misunderstood due to stereotypes and media portrayals. We are here to clarify what Islam truly stands for—peace, compassion, and respect for all humanity,” he said. Salim also highlighted the significance of community and interfaith dialogue in promoting harmony among different religious groups.

A significant highlight of the event was the “Ask a Muslim” booth, where non-Muslims could pose any questions they had about Islam or Islamic practices. The booth fostered open discussions and helped demystify various aspects of the religion, from the significance of prayer to the meaning behind Ramadan fasting.

The iERA team  continued their initiative by setting up stalls showcasing Islamic books, creating a festive atmosphere that encouraged further engagement.

Feedback from passersby was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn more about Islam in a friendly and welcoming environment.

“I had many misconceptions about Islam, but this outreach has opened my eyes.

I appreciate the patience and clarity with which the speaker, those one-on-one addressed our questions,” said Sarah, a participant from Accra.

The event concluded with a call to action for more places to continue the conversation beyond the mall. The team encouraged people to share their newfound knowledge with friends and family, fostering a culture of understanding and respect in their neighbourhoods.

As the sun set over Accra, the program left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the importance of education and dialogue in breaking down barriers and building bridges among diverse groups.

iERA Ghana plans to host similar events in the future, aiming to create a more inclusive and knowledgeable society.

People were invited to join Islam and we hope they will join in future, if Allah permits.
