A Journey from Dependence to Faith – The Story of Olive Mafuta

In the quiet village of Samama, under Traditional Authority Kuntaja in Blantyre District, lives Olive Mafuta, a woman whose story is a powerful reminder that true faith often shines brightest through trials.

Olive is a single and divorced woman who has faced many challenges in life. After her marriage ended, she returned home to her relatives, who took her in and supported her with food and daily needs. Though she lacked a husband or children to depend on, her family’s care gave her some comfort and stability.

Before Islam, Olive was an active and respected member of the Zione Church, where she even served as a treasurer. Life seemed to be flowing smoothly — her family approved of her, she had a community that accepted her, and she felt secure under their support.

However, everything began to change in June 2025, when the Outreach Specialists (OSs) visited her village to share the message of Islam. Olive listened curiously as they spoke about the Oneness of Allah, the purpose of life, and the peace that comes from submitting to the Creator alone.

Each discussion opened her heart more and more. She found truth, logic, and purity in every word about Islam. The simplicity of worshipping one God without intermediaries touched her deeply. It was during one of these heartfelt sessions that Olive’s heart finally found clarity — and she decided to embrace Islam.

But her new decision came with a storm. When her relatives discovered that she had accepted Islam, their reaction was harsh and painful. They warned her that if she continued with this “new religion,” they would stop helping her altogether. For a woman who relied on their support, this was a heavy threat.

Despite the fear of losing everything, Olive stood firm. Her heart had tasted the sweetness of truth, and she could not deny it. She said, “If this is the path that leads me to the One True God, then I will walk it — even if I walk it alone.”

Days passed, and indeed, her relatives withdrew their help. But Olive’s strength only grew. She began to find comfort in her prayers, peace in her new Muslim community, and hope in her faith. Slowly, she learned that true reliance is not on people — it is on Allah, the Provider of all sustenance.

Today, Olive Mafuta stands as a new Muslimah with unshakable faith. Her journey from dependence to spiritual independence is an inspiring reminder that when one chooses Allah, He never abandons them.

“And whoever puts their trust in Allah — He will be enough for them.” (Qur’an 65:3)
