Last month in Thyolo District, a remarkable transformation occurred in the life of a young man named Emmanuel Kholoma, from GVH Mphando Village, MPANDO, under T/A Nchilamwela. His story is one of reflection, struggle, and ultimately, the beauty of guidance through Islam.
Emmanuel did not come to Islam alone. He was introduced to the faith through dedicated Dawah efforts. We had the privilege of sitting with him, sharing the powerful message of Tawheed—the Oneness of Allah. We explained patiently that Islam teaches there is only One God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, without partner, without son, and without equal. We shared the essence of the religion: that worship should be devoted solely to Allah, and that following His guidance is the path to true peace and success in life.
Before embracing Islam, Emmanuel lived a life that reflected many struggles and wrong choices. He was involved in numerous bad habits: drinking beer, stealing, and engaging in actions that led him further away from peace and purpose. Despite sometimes hiding it, his heart was not at ease. He felt trapped in a cycle of sin, searching for something that could give his life meaning and relief from guilt.

During our sessions, we recited the words of Allah to him, saying:
“Say: He is Allah, the One.” (Qur’an 112:1)
We also shared the message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who called people to abandon wrongdoing and turn to Allah in sincere worship. Emmanuel listened attentively. Each word touched his heart, planting seeds of reflection. He began to see clearly that true freedom is not found in following desires or temporary pleasures, but in submitting to the Creator, who alone gives life purpose, guidance, and peace.
As he reflected, asked questions, and considered deeply, Emmanuel reached a turning point. With full conviction, he accepted Islam and declared the Shahada—the testimony of faith. From that moment, a profound change began in his life.
He abandoned drinking. He stopped stealing. He turned away from the sins of his past. Emmanuel began to pray regularly, speak kindly, and act honestly. His face now reflects peace and happiness—a visible sign of the inner transformation that took place through understanding and embracing Tawheed.
His journey was not without challenges. Some people in his community disagreed with his decision. Others tried to discourage him or even looked down upon him for choosing a new path in life. Yet, Emmanuel remained firm and patient, knowing that guidance and steadfastness come from Allah alone.
This transformation did not only affect Emmanuel. It deeply impacted his mother, who had been greatly worried about her son. His past behavior had brought her pain, concern, and sleepless nights. Watching Emmanuel’s life turn around—from recklessness to responsibility, from sin to worship—brought her relief and joy. She witnessed her son growing disciplined, kind, and committed to the path of Allah, and her heart found peace.
Today, Emmanuel Kholoma stands as a living example of the mercy and forgiveness of Allah. His life proves that no matter how many mistakes or sins a person has committed, Islam offers a path to redemption, guidance, and true peace. As Allah says in the Qur’an:
“O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.” (Qur’an 39:53)
Emmanuel’s message to others is clear and inspiring:
“If I can change, anyone can change. Islam teaches us to worship One God and to leave bad deeds behind. Do not be afraid to seek the truth.”
May Allah keep him steadfast on the straight path, bless him with continued guidance, and use his story to inspire many others to embrace the beautiful message of Tawheed.
