FROM CATHOLIC TO JUDAISM TO ISLAM

In the vibrant city of Guadalajara, a man’s lifelong journey in search of truth unfolded in ways he never could have imagined. His name is Francisco Malak Suleiman, a retired police officer whose path to Islam was shaped by sincerity, reflection, and an unwavering desire to know God.

Born into the deeply rooted tradition of Roman Catholicism, Francisco spent much of his early life practicing the faith that surrounded him. In Mexico, Catholicism was more than just a religion—it was a culture, a way of life. Like many, he followed it because it was what he had always known.

But as the years passed, questions began to surface.

About seven years ago, driven by personal struggles and a deep inner search for meaning, Francisco made a life-changing decision—he embraced Judaism. It was here that he first encountered a powerful concept that would reshape his understanding of faith: true monotheism.

Through Judaism, he came to believe in one God—the God of Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the prophets. This awakening brought him closer to a sense of purpose and clarity he had long been searching for.

Yet, even within that clarity, he noticed something that stirred new questions in his heart.

As he became more familiar with Judaism from within, he observed the differences among its communities—various groups and interpretations that did not always align. These distinctions led him to reflect once again, prompting him to look further.

It was then that his journey took another turn—towards Islam.

His first real connection to Islam came not through books, but through a person. A neighbor, Abdurrahman, who lived just around the corner, became an unexpected guide. Originally from Algeria, Abdurrahman was not just a neighbor, but soon a close friend.

They would spend hours in conversation—discussing faith, scripture, and life. Francisco would share his understanding of the Torah, while Abdurrahman spoke about the Qur’an and the teachings of Islam. These exchanges were not debates, but sincere dialogues rooted in mutual respect.

Through these conversations, Francisco began to see Islam differently.

The misconceptions he once held—shaped largely by media portrayals—slowly faded. He came to realize that Islam was not what he had once thought. Instead, he saw it as a religion of honor, clarity, and pure devotion to one God.

A defining moment came when he received a copy of the Qur’an as a gift from a brother named Rafael at the Miriam Mosque.

As he began to read, something profound happened.

“At first, I wasn’t ready,” he admits. “But as I studied it, I realized that these were not just words—they were revelation.”

The message of the Qur’an resonated deeply within him. What stood out the most was its unwavering emphasis on pure monotheism—worship of one God without partners, divisions, or contradictions.

In Islam, he found something he had been searching for all along: unity in belief.

“There are no sectarian divisions when it comes to the belief in one God,” he reflects. “That is what drew me.”

Step by step, his heart aligned with what he was reading. The journey that began in Catholicism, deepened in Judaism, had now reached its destination.

With conviction and peace, Francisco finally took his Shahada—embracing Islam fully.

Today, he stands as a new Muslim, grateful for every step that led him here.

“Alhamdulillah. Allahu Akbar. Thanks be to Allah,” he says with sincerity.

His story is not just about changing religions—it is about a man who refused to stop searching until he found the truth.

And in that search, he discovered that every path he walked was guiding him closer to Islam.
