From Curiosity to Shahadah: Magiret Sibande Embraces Islam

Magiret Sibande attended the Malawi International Trade Fair, where many organizations and businesses were showcasing their products and services. Among the exhibitors was IERA Malawi, which had a stand displaying copies of the Qur’an and providing information about Islam. The purpose of the stand was to give visitors an opportunity to see the Qur’an, receive a free copy, and ask questions about Islam.

As Magiret and her friend passed by the IERA stand, they stopped to look at the Qur’an and learn more about Islam. Magiret had heard negative things about Islam, including claims that it promotes war and questions about why some Muslim men have more than one wife. The outreach team welcomed her questions and explained that Islam is a religion of peace and that many misconceptions come from people who misunderstand or dislike Islam. They also explained that Muslims follow the teachings of all the prophets, including Jesus (peace be upon him).

Magiret was surprised to learn that Muslims believe in Jesus. She asked, “Do Muslims really believe in Jesus?” The team explained that Muslims believe in Jesus as a prophet of Allah, but not as the Son of God or as God Himself. This answer amazed her and increased her interest in learning more. Before leaving, she requested a copy of the Qur’an, saying that she wanted to read it and understand what was inside this holy book.

The following day, Magiret returned to the IERA stand by herself. She told the outreach team that she had spent time reading the Qur’an and that its message had touched her heart. After reflecting on what she had learned and receiving answers to her questions, she expressed her desire to become a Muslim. With confidence and sincerity, Magiret took her Shahadah and embraced Islam.
