The morning breeze rustled gently through the quiet hills of Thyolo as our team arrived in the village of Thowera. The sun was just rising, painting the sky with hues of gold and pink. We had come to meet Chief Ndalama, the respected leader of the Luntha people. Known for his generosity and welcoming spirit, Chief Thowera greeted us warmly, making us feel at home in his village. His reputation for hospitality was well-known, and indeed, it was a place where strangers could feel like family.
We had been in Thowera for nearly two months, patiently teaching the villagers about Islam, inviting them to learn about the faith, and explaining its principles with care and respect. Many of the villagers were followers of the Abrahamic traditions, and while some were curious and eager to listen, others were hesitant or unsure. It was not an easy journey, for hearts take time to change, and understanding often requires patience. Yet, we persevered, trusting in Allah’s guidance.

Then, in a remarkable turn of events, Allah guided the chief to the path of truth. What had once seemed so difficult—the effort of visiting homes, explaining faith, and answering questions—was now met with openness and acceptance. Chief Thowera’s heart became steadfast. He began to embrace Islam sincerely, understanding that the teachings he had once only observed from a distance were a pathway to true guidance. As the Qur’an reminds us:
This is the guidance of Allah; He guides whom He wills
The chief spoke with humility and sincerity about his journey. He shared how his prayers, reflection, and daily practices had deepened his understanding and brought peace to his heart. He acknowledged that following the path of Allah was the right course for him and for his people. Allah rewarded his sincerity and commitment abundantly, fulfilling the promise mentioned in the Qur’an:
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam.
There is now great hope that this transformation will inspire others in the village. In the past, the chief had generously offered us a plot of land, where we built a small prayer space. This gesture, simple yet profound, reflects his openness to Allah’s guidance and signals a future where more villagers may embrace Islam, united by faith and understanding.
We pray earnestly that Allah continues to bless Chief Thowera, making him a wise, just, and compassionate leader. May he govern with fairness, uphold the laws of Allah, and guide his people along the path of righteousness. Through this journey, we witness how patience, persistence, and Allah’s guidance can transform hearts, change lives, and bring light to even the most unexpected places.
