It was during one of our Dawah outreach programs when the iERA team in Nigeria met a young preacher whose heart seemed open, yet burdened by confusion.
As the team sat down together and began discussing the Oneness of God, the Prophets, and the role of Jesus Christ, he listened intently, his eyes reflecting both curiosity and disbelief.
When the team spoke about Jesus, something changed in him. With a passionate intensity, he looked us in the eye and said, “I am always shocked when I hear a Christian call Jesus God, He is not God, He can’t be.”
His words were filled with sincerity, but also a deep sense of confusion. He had never truly understood the concept of the Trinity, and the idea of Jesus as divine was something that troubled him deeply.
As the conversation continued, the Duat shared with him the beautiful simplicity of Islamic worship—how it aligns perfectly with the commands of God.
They spoke of the pure devotion to the One Creator, and the deep sense of peace that comes from worshipping God alone. The more they spoke, the more his disbelief began to melt away, replaced by awe and amazement.
He sat there, stunned. “I’ve never met a Muslim who knows so much about Christianity and Islam,” he admitted, his voice tinged with wonder. “This is the first time I’ve really understood. I always thought I knew, but now… it feels different.”
The Duat saw an opportunity, and gently asked him if he was ready to take the Shahada, to declare his belief in the Oneness of God and the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him). His face softened, and for a moment, it felt like time stood still. He paused, and with a thoughtful look, he said, “Give me some time to think. This is… a lot to take in.”
The Duat respected his request, but there was a bittersweet feeling in the air.
He was a man searching for truth, but still wrestling with the weight of his past.
And despite his desire to reflect, there was a sense of urgency in the Duat’s hearts.
Unfortunately, he lived a life disconnected from modern technology, and we couldn’t exchange contact details to stay in touch.
However, the team didn’t let that stop them,. they connected him with the local mosque, just a short distance from the outreach site, hoping that the seeds they planted would grow.
As they parted ways, they knew that this encounter, this moment of shared truth, would linger in his heart for a long time.
