The morning sun was just beginning to warm the dusty streets, casting long shadows as the team of iERA da’ees set out on their daily mission. Among them walked Vincent, a 24-year-old whose heart was caught in a quiet tug-of-war.
Although Vincent was drawn to the teachings of Islam, a wooden Catholic rosary still hung firmly around his neck. He wore it everywhere and stubbornly refused to take it off. It was his comfort, his anchor, and a symbol of everything he had known up until that moment.
As the team navigated the bustling neighborhood, they spotted a familiar sight: Mubiru, sitting in his small workshop, bent over a workbench cluttered with wires, soldering irons, and dismantled radio chassis. Radio repair was his daily routine, but this morning, his routine was about to be interrupted by a conversation of eternal weight.
The da’ees approached Mubiru’s workshop and struck up a warm conversation. With gentleness and clarity, they introduced him to the beauty and truthfulness of Islam. They spoke of Tawheed—the absolute Oneness of God—and explained how Muslims honor and believe in all the prophets, from Abraham and Moses to Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them all).
Mubiru listened intently, the hum of a half-repaired radio playing in the background. While he was deeply moved by their words, he wasn’t ready to take the leap just yet.
“Give me some time to think about this,” Mubiru requested thoughtfully.
The team respected his wish, offering a warm smile and a prayer for his guidance. But as they prepared to leave, Vincent—who had been silently observing the exchange—felt a sudden spark within himself. He turned to the team and promised that he would attend the upcoming New Muslim classes to learn more about this faith that had captured his curiosity.
The team gave him the location of the center, and Vincent promised he would be there.

When Vincent arrived at the class later that week, the da’ees instantly recognized the 24-year-old with the rosary still resting against his chest. Seeing his sincere search for truth, the instructor decided to focus the session on the foundation of Islamic belief using the GORAP strategy—explaining God’s existence, ownership, revelation, and associating no partners with Him, leading to the prophethood of Muhammad.
As the instructor laid out the logical and heart-touching proofs of God’s absolute oneness, a profound shift occurred inside Vincent. The logical puzzles in his mind began to fall into place, and the lingering doubts that had kept him clinging to his old ways melted away. The reality of pure monotheism struck his heart with overwhelming clarity.
In the middle of the crowded New Muslim class, surrounded by fellow seekers and teachers, Vincent stood up.
With tears of conviction in his eyes, he reached up, unclasped the rosary from his neck, and declared his desire to embrace Islam right then and there.
Before the entire gathering, Vincent pronounced the Shahada—the testimony of faith—bearing witness that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger. The room erupted in warm congratulations and brotherhood.
Stepping out of his old life and into the light of truth, Vincent chose a new name to mark his new beginning: Bashir, the bearer of good news.
