How a 15-Minute Rest Led a Ugandan Bricklayer to Islam

The morning sun was just beginning to warm the soil of the village as the iERA Daees’ set out for another day of spreading Dawah. Their mission was simple but profound: to share the pure message of Islam with anyone willing to listen. They didn’t know it yet, but a divine appointment was already waiting for them just down the path.

While walking through the village, the team noticed a man resting outside his home. His hands bore the calluses of hard, honest work. His name was John, a local bricklayer who had paused his exhausting daily routine to catch his breath.

Recognizing a peaceful moment, the daees approached him with warm greetings and politely requested just 15 minutes of his time. John, welcoming and curious, agreed.

Sitting together, the daees began to speak about the purpose of life, the beauty of creation, and the absolute Oneness of God (Tawheed). They shared the clear, unadulterated truth of Islam—that the Creator is One, without partners, and uniquely worthy of worship.

John listened intently, the message resonating deeply with his heart. However, coming from a Christian background, one burning question lingered in his mind. He looked at the daees and asked, “What about those who say that Jesus is also God?”.

With gentleness and clarity, the daees replied, explaining that in Islam, Jesus holds a place of immense honor and love, but he was a human being—a mighty and noble Messenger of God, sent to guide his people, not to be worshipped alongside the Creator.

John nodded his head in quiet realization. The pieces of the puzzle had finally fallen into place. The truth was undeniable. Without hesitation, he looked at the team and asked the ultimate question:

The daees smiled, their hearts filled with joy. They carefully guided John through the Shahada . In the quiet of his village home, John declared in Arabic and English that there is no God worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger.

To mark this beautiful new chapter in his life, John chose a name that reflects light and spiritual rebirth: Ramadhan.

What began as a routine 15-minute rest from molding clay bricks transformed into the moment John molded his eternal destiny. He entered the shade of Islam, leaving the daees to continue their journey, deeply reminded of the power of a single, sincere conversation.
