In the heart of Uganda’s rural villages, the seeds of faith require more than just a sower; they require a guardian to ensure they take root. This January, as iERA Uganda Duat journeyed into remote areas to share the message of Islam, they found more than just a mission field—they found a true partner in Imam Abdulhakim.
Imam Abdulhakim’s leadership has become the gold standard for how local mosques can embrace and sustain the work of dawah.
While many leaders might simply grant permission, Imam Abdulhakim took a step further. He didn’t just open the door; he walked through it alongside the Duat.
Throughout the month, the Imam was a constant presence, traversing the dusty village paths with the outreach team. Whether it was standing under the shade of a tree to address a crowd of non-Muslims or sitting on a woven mat to guide a support class, his involvement sent a powerful message: This is not a temporary visit; this is a permanent home.

One of the greatest fears for a new Muslim is the feeling of abandonment once a specialized team leaves. Imam Abdulhakim addressed this head-on. During the support sessions, he spoke directly to the new believers with a fatherly assurance:
“The Duat may move on to the next village, but I am staying here. My doors and the doors of our Muslim leaders are open to you today, tomorrow, and forever.”
The Imam’s commitment wasn’t limited to the mosque. In a beautiful display of pastoral care, he accompanied the Duat to the private homes of new Muslims. By visiting them where they live, he turned a “new religion” into a “new family.”
Imam Abdulhakim listened to the new muslim stories and addressed their personal challenges. He assured them that the local Muslim leadership was committed to their long-term nurturing.
Because of Imam Abdulhakim’s proactive stance, the work of iERA Uganda has been amplified. The community is not just growing in numbers; it is growing in strength and unity. When the Duat eventually depart for their next mission, they will do so knowing that the new Muslims are in the capable, loving hands of a leader who views their growth as his own.
