For years, Rebecca’s home was a battlefield of silent convictions. A staunch Catholic by birth and practice, she remained unshakable even after marrying a Muslim husband. Despite his many calls for her to join him in his faith, Rebecca stood her ground like a fortress. Every Sunday, she would lead her children to the church, determined to raise them in her own image and ensure they followed her religious path. To Rebecca, Islam was not just a different religion; it was a path she viewed with deep-seated resentment and open defiance.
When the iERA outreach specialists arrived in her village, they were met with a wall of ice. Rebecca did not mince words—she told them plainly of her hatred for Islam and insisted that even a marriage to a Muslim had not moved her heart.

But the duats did not see a closed door; they saw a soul in need of patience. They returned to her home again and again, not with pressure, but with “Hikmah” (wisdom) and gentle reminders of the goodness of Islam. In a surprising turn, Rebecca eventually agreed to attend the New Muslim support classes, though she did so with a stern warning: “I will attend, but I will never embrace this religion.”
The turning point came when the District Head joined the team of duats for a visit to her home. As they sat together, they moved away from arguments and spoke directly to the core of faith: The Oneness of God (Tawheed). As they explained the pure, uncomplicated connection between a Creator and His creation, the wall Rebecca had built over decades began to crumble. The hatred she had harbored was replaced by a sudden, overwhelming clarity. In a moment that stunned everyone present, the woman who had sworn she would never convert looked up and spoke the words no one thought they would hear: “I am ready. I am accepting Islam.”
With a heart finally at peace, Rebecca declared her Shahada, trading her resistance for submission. She chose the name Rashidah—meaning “The Rightly Guided One.”
Today, the house that was once divided by religious tension is united under the banner of Tawheed. Rashidah’s journey is a testament to the fact that no heart is too hard for Allah to soften, and no distance is too great for the Truth to bridge.
