When Sincere Questions Led to a Life-Changing Decision

Brother Frank had been a devoted Catholic for many years. His faith was an important part of his life, and like many Christians, he believed that Jesus was God who came to earth in human form.

One day, Frank met the iERA outreach specialists, who engaged him in a sincere and respectful conversation about Islam. They explained the Islamic belief in the oneness of God (Tawheed), the role of the prophets, and why Muslims believe that Jesus (peace be upon him) was a mighty messenger of Allah rather than God Himself. They also answered his questions about the Qur’an, prophethood, and the core teachings of Islam.

During the discussion, Frank openly admitted that he knew very little about Islam. He shared that he had always believed Jesus was God and had never been exposed to the Islamic perspective. Rather than debating, the du’ats patiently listened to his concerns and responded with kindness, wisdom, and evidence.

As the conversation continued, Frank reflected deeply on what he had heard. He said he had never before understood the Islamic view of Jesus and realized that many of his assumptions about Islam were based on what he had previously been taught. He expressed that he felt he had been misled about Islam and wanted to embrace what he now believed to be the truth.

With conviction in his heart, Frank declared the Shahada:

“Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah.”

“I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”

At that moment, Brother Frank embraced Islam and chose the name Ismael, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

His story is a reminder that sincere dialogue, respectful engagement, and a willingness to ask questions can open doors to new understanding. May Allah keep Brother Ismael steadfast upon Islam, increase him in knowledge and faith, and make him a source of goodness for others.
