Behind the stories of William and Yesid is one remarkable woman—the sister of William and partner of Yesid. She was the first among them to discover Islam, and through her transformation, she became a source of inspiration that would eventually lead both men towards the same path.
Yesid, 39, witnessed the change in her character firsthand. What impressed him most was how her behaviour improved after coming closer to Islam. Before encountering Islam, Yesid felt he was living without direction and carrying bitterness within him. He had never found a faith that reflected what he believed, until he saw the difference Islam made in the life of someone close to him.
William, 34, experienced something similar through his sister. Seeing her transformation sparked his curiosity and encouraged him to learn more about Islam. As he explored the faith, he discovered a religion centred on peace, sincere faith, and a direct relationship with God without intermediaries.
Eventually, William and Yesid took their shahadah together, accompanied by the iERA Colombia team. Reflecting on what Islam has brought into their lives, William describes it as “awareness,” while Yesid describes it as “love.”
Yesid says he is ready to continue learning and embracing Islam, just as he feels Islam has embraced him. William also looks forward to growing as a person and deepening his understanding of his new faith. Their journey is a beautiful reminder that one person’s transformation can inspire an entire family, and that the path to Islam can reach each person in its own unique way.
