“I was always Muslim, I just didn’t know it”: Sarahi’s journey of awakening in Honduras

In the heart of Honduras, where vibrant cultures intertwine and faith runs deep, a young woman named Sarahi was quietly wrestling with a hidden longing. Raised in an Evangelical Christian household, questioning religious teachings was not an option.

Conversations about faith were rigid, expectations were set, and there was little room for spiritual exploration.

Yet, deep inside her heart, Sarahi always believed in something more—a pure, undivided belief in One God.
She could never reconcile this inner conviction with the religious practices around her.

Though Christianity spoke of monotheism, she saw actions that contradicted that claim—devotion to statues, reliance on human figures, and rituals that left her with more questions than answers.

“For years,” Sarahi reflects, “I carried a spiritual void that no religion could fill. Although Christianity professes the oneness of God, it doesn’t truly live it. Instead, it clings to men and idols made of clay.”

Her understanding of Islam, like that of many others, had been clouded by the media—painted with misconceptions and fear. But somehow, the idea of Islam still stirred something within her, something she couldn’t fully explain.

Then, one day, her path crossed with a light she had long been seeking.

She visited the iERA Dawah Centre in Honduras—a small place, yet filled with warmth, patience, and genuine care. From the moment she stepped in, a deep sense of calm, safety, and connection washed over her. She wasn’t judged. She wasn’t pressured. She was simply invited to learn.

Here, Sarahi discovered Islam—not through distorted headlines, but through the pure teachings of the Qur’an and the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
And it was in those quiet conversations, those gentle invitations to reflect, that the realization struck her like a sunrise breaking the night:

“I realized I had always been a Muslim—I just didn’t know it.”

Sarahi embraced Islam with a heart full of conviction.
As a national sign language interpreter often seen on TV screens across Honduras, she initially feared how this change would affect her public role and personal life. But she found support and patience in the iERA community, who walked beside her through every step.

Today, Sarahi is blossoming in her faith.
She is learning, growing, and building a life rooted in sincerity, clarity, and submission to Allah. Her prayers are now filled with purpose. Her days are guided by hope. Her heart is at peace.

But Sarahi’s story doesn’t end there.
Now, she dreams of giving back—of helping others, especially those who feel the same void she once carried, to find their way to the light of Islam. She wants to become a beacon for others, just as someone was for her.

This is the true power of dawah.
A quiet conversation. An open door. A heart set free.

And this is what your support makes possible—helping souls like Sarahi realize that they were always searching for the truth; they just needed someone to show them the way.
