A conversation on truth: Street da’wah meets a seeker in Milton

On June 28, under the open skies of downtown Milton, the iERA Milton team gathered once again for their weekly Street Da’wah session — a quiet but powerful commitment to sharing the truth of Islam with sincerity and wisdom.

Among the various meaningful interactions that day, one stood out for its intensity and depth: a spirited conversation between one of the da’wah brothers and a visitor from a Hindu background. What began as a curious exchange quickly became a challenging discussion, with the guest oscillating between open-mindedness and skepticism.

The conversation centered around a profound question: Is the universe designed, or is it a product of chaos and illusion? The visitor conceded that the universe displayed undeniable signs of design, and even admitted that the concept of a Creator was logical. Yet, at times he slipped into other ideas such as Maya (illusion) and randomness — contradicting his own earlier affirmations.

The iERA da’ee gently navigated these shifts, reminding the guest that truth cannot be shaped by personal preference or cultural familiarity. Truth, by its very nature, is exclusive and rooted in evidence. He introduced the Islamic framework of recognizing truth — through ʿAql (intellect) and Naql (revelation). These two pillars together form a robust means of identifying what is real, what is divine, and what deserves our devotion.

The discussion touched on various scriptures — the Gita, the Vedas, the Bible — and the brother respectfully explained the Islamic criteria for authentic revelation: Who authored it? Was it preserved without alteration? Did it come through a verified prophet of God?

Despite the circular nature of some parts of the conversation, the brother remained patient and focused. He brought the dialogue back to the central message of Islam — simple, clear, and powerful:

“There is only One God, the Creator of all that exists. He alone is worthy of worship. Throughout history, He sent messengers to guide humanity, and the final revelation came through Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Qur’an is the preserved, unchanged word of God — a book that invites both the heart and the intellect.”

As the conversation came to a respectful close, the guest was invited to take a copy of the Qur’an and reflect with sincerity. There was no pressure, only an open invitation to explore, to question, and to return — not to argue, but to seek truth.

This encounter in downtown Milton was a vivid reminder that da’wah is not about winning debates — it’s about planting seeds. It’s about meeting people where they are, with compassion and clarity, trusting that guidance is in the hands of Allah.
