Jennet Chiwaya is from Thyolo. She reverted to Islam three months ago in 2026. Before becoming Muslim, Jennet had attended and participated in nearly five different churches. Her journey changed when an IERA Dawah team began conducting Dawah classes in her village. She was among those who attended the classes and listened carefully to the teachings about Islam.
As Jennet learned more about Islam, she began to see it as the true religion and was especially touched by the way Muslims are encouraged to follow the commands of Allah. She learned about the importance of praying five times a day and putting faith into practice. Compared with her previous church experiences, where she mainly attended on Sundays to sing songs and did not regularly pray, she found the discipline of daily prayer meaningful. After learning and reflecting on the teachings, Jennet decided to accept Islam and took her Shahadah.
When her husband, who is a pastor, heard that Jennet had become Muslim, he began trying to stop her from following Islam. Jennet explained to her family that before becoming Muslim, she and her husband had already belonged to different churches. She was a Catholic while her husband was a member of the Church of Christ, but he never tried to stop her from practicing her faith. She told them, “So now that I have decided to become Muslim, you have come to stop me?” Jennet remained firm and made it clear that she would not leave Islam because of pressure from her husband or family.
Jennet told her husband that she had made her decision and would remain Muslim. She explained that if he could not accept her choice, they could separate, but she was determined to continue practicing her new faith. Eventually, her husband gave up trying to change her decision and allowed her to continue as a Muslim.
