Seeking Answers, Finding Allah: A Conversation that Changed a Life.

But our ancestors give us rain when we ask for it, so what are you saying?
We see them in our dreams, they speak to us, they know our problems and provide solutions, and that’s why we believe and worship our ancestors.”

Seeking Guidance Beyond the Familiar:

The world is filled with diverse spiritual paths, each offering answers to life’s big questions. In a recent conversation between an iERA Duat (Islamic scholar) and a member of an African Traditional Religion, a fascinating exchange unfolded, challenging long-held beliefs and ultimately leading to a profound personal transformation.

The Power of Ancestral Connection:

The individual, deeply rooted in their traditional faith, shared their belief in the power of ancestors. They described them as sources of wisdom, guidance, and solutions to problems, appearing in dreams and offering support. This belief, rooted in cultural practices and personal experiences, held a strong emotional resonance.

Challenging the Paradigm:

The Duat, with respect and understanding, presented a different perspective. He explained the concept of a single Creator God, highlighting the limitations of attributing such power to ancestors. He also shed light on the potential for jinn (unseen beings) to deceive and misrepresent themselves as ancestral figures.

A Verse for Reflection:

To further emphasize this point, the Duat shared a powerful verse from the Quran:

“Surely, those whom you invoke other than God cannot create even a fly, even if they were all to combine together to do it, and if a fly should snatch anything away from them, they cannot recover it from it. Both are indeed weak, the seeker and the sought.” (Quran 22:73)

This verse served as a reflection, prompting the individual to question their deeply held beliefs and consider the possibility of a different truth.

The Journey to Islam:

Hours of conversation ignited a spark of curiosity. The man, deeply affected by the Islamic teachings, returned and embraced Islam. He eagerly immersed himself in a month-long class program and now continues his journey through the New Muslim Intensive Program.

Embrace Understanding, Spread the Message:

This story is a powerful testament to the transformative power of knowledge and open dialogue. It highlights the importance of respectful dawah (propagation of Islam) and the impact organizations like iERA can have in fostering understanding and guiding seekers on their spiritual paths.
