A Memorable Jumu‘ah at Kanjedza Local Masjid, Kuntaja Area – Blantyre District

Some days ago, the Muslim community in the Kuntaja area of Blantyre District experienced a truly remarkable and inspiring Jumu‘ah Swalah at Kanjedza Local Masjid—a day that left a lasting impression on everyone who attended.

From the early hours of that Friday morning, worshippers began making their way to the masjid from different parts of the area. Men, elders, youth, and even first-time attendees arrived with eagerness, hoping to secure a place inside the house of Allah. As the time for Jumu‘ah drew closer, it became evident that the masjid, which can accommodate no more than 300 people, would not be able to contain the growing crowd.

Long before the Adhan was called, the masjid had already reached full capacity. Yet people continued to arrive, refusing to turn back. With no space left inside, many worshippers calmly laid their prayer mats outside the masjid, extending the congregation into the surrounding open areas. Rows formed beyond the walls of the masjid, and the sight of hundreds of believers preparing for prayer under the open sky was both humbling and powerful.

When the Adhan was finally called, it echoed far beyond the masjid, uniting more than 300 worshippers into a single congregation. The Khutbah was delivered with clarity and purpose, and despite the physical limitations, the atmosphere was filled with tranquility, focus, and sincere devotion. Those praying outside listened attentively, standing shoulder to shoulder, fully engaged in the remembrance of Allah.

After the prayer, conversations among the worshippers reflected both gratitude and concern. Gratitude—for being able to gather in such large numbers for Jumu‘ah—and concern—because the current structure of Kanjedza Local Masjid could no longer meet the needs of the rapidly growing Muslim population in the Kuntaja area.

That Friday served as a clear reminder of the urgent need for a larger and proper masjid—a place that can comfortably accommodate the community, provide space for learning, and serve as a center of unity and guidance. The willingness of people to pray outside, despite the challenges, demonstrated their deep love for Salah and their commitment to the house of Allah.

This Jumu‘ah was not just a prayer; it was a message. A message that the Ummah in Kuntaja is growing, active, and eager to worship—but in need of support.

May Allah accept the Jumu‘ah of all who attended, reward their patience and sincerity, and inspire those with the ability to assist in the expansion and development of Kanjedza Local Masjid.
Ameen.
