UWIZEYE Esperence, a widow, had been carrying the heavy burden of not only raising her own children but also caring for her late neighbor’s twin children. Her life was filled with endless challenges, and though the community knew of her struggles, they often turned a blind eye, leaving Esperence to fend for herself. Her dilapidated home was a testament to the overwhelming load she bore alone.
But one day, a team of Outreach Specialists arrived in her village. They were duats—individuals committed to spreading the peaceful message of Islam while actively supporting those in need. Their mission went beyond words; it was a mission of action and compassion. The team approached Esperence with kindness, offering both practical help and spiritual guidance. As they helped her repair her crumbling house, they shared a message from the Qur’an, rooted in the verse, Innama al-‘usri yusra—”Indeed, with hardship comes ease” (Qur’an 94:6). These words resonated deeply with her.
The duats shared warm smiles, and their sincerity left an indelible mark on her heart. Overwhelmed by their kindness, Esperence felt a flicker of hope she had long forgotten.
“I truly accept your religion,” she said, tears brimming in her eyes. “You approached me and helped me when no one else had sympathy. Everyone knew I took care of the twins after their mother passed away, yet I felt so alone.”
In that moment, with the guidance from Allah, Esperence embraced Islam. She found more than just a new faith; she discovered a community of believers who cared deeply for one another. The support she received wasn’t just physical—it was emotional and spiritual. The burden she had carried for so long felt lighter as she experienced the warmth of her new brothers and sisters in faith.
Our Team in Rwanda, and the duats didn’t just bring a message; they brought tangible change. Their work reflects the power of Islam to transform lives—not only spiritually but also practically. By helping individuals like Esperence, they are building stronger communities rooted in compassion, support, and unity. Their selfless service and dedication to helping others continue to create ripples of change that extend far beyond words, reaching hearts and transforming lives.
In Esperence’s words,
“Islam came into my life at a time when I thought I was alone, but through it, I found family, hope, and a reason to keep going.”
