A morning of light: Spreading the message, one Quran at a time

It was a beautiful, tranquil morning—the kind that fills the heart with gratitude and sets the perfect tone for dawah.

As always, we set up at our regular spot, ready to share the message of Islam with those whose hearts were open to it.

The sun rose softly behind us as passersby paused, curious glances turning into warm conversations. A few copies of the Qur’an had already been exchanged, each handed out with care and hope.

Then, a young man approached us.

There was something about him—an earnestness in his expression, a spark in his eyes. He took the Qur’an gently, as if it were something precious.

Wanting to protect his copy from being taken or stolen, as sadly happens at times, we immediately wrote a personal note of encouragement inside the cover along with our contact details. When we handed it back to him, his face lit up with a joy that words can’t fully capture.

He left beaming, holding the Qur’an close as though he had just been given a priceless treasure.

Less than thirty minutes later, we heard footsteps pounding the pavement behind us. A man came running toward us with a look of urgency—yet his voice was full of excitement. Speaking in our local language, he exclaimed, “Give me my own Qur’an now!” His plea wasn’t a demand, but a heartfelt request: “Please, let me have a copy too!”

The joy radiating from his face was unmistakable. He had seen the happiness and peace in his friend and wanted to experience it for himself. We repeated what we had done earlier—writing a short message of encouragement and our contact number in the Qur’an, personalizing it just for him.

Then, something unexpected happened. We asked, as we occasionally do, if he’d like to take a photo with us. Without hesitation, he said, “Yes!” This simple gesture spoke volumes. It was a sign that he felt not only welcomed, but free and comfortable in our presence. For many, especially in communities where misconceptions about Muslims persist, this kind of openness is rare. But here he was—smiling, open, at ease.

Moments like these remind us why we do this. They are signs that guidance is near, that hearts are softening, and that Allah is opening doors in His perfect timing.

lease keep both of these young men in your du’as. Ask Allah to guide them, to open their hearts to the truth, and to protect them on their journey. What started as a simple gift of the Qur’an could, by Allah’s will, be the spark that lights a lifelong commitment to faith.

Never underestimate the power of a single interaction. Sometimes, all it takes is a smile, a kind word, and a book that changes everything.
