An Inspiring Story from Mbingwa Village, T/A Chadza, Lilongwe District

In the quiet village of Mbingwa, under Traditional Authority Chadza in Lilongwe District, lived a man named Peter Mbingwa—the man seen in the picture wearing a white shirt. Peter was well known and respected in his community. For many years, he served as a senior and devoted member of the Church of Christ, actively involved in church activities and firmly rooted in his beliefs.

Like many people around him, Peter’s understanding of Islam was shaped not by knowledge, but by negative information and misconceptions spread by those who spoke badly about the religion. Because of this, he developed a strong dislike for Islam and never imagined that it was a faith he would one day study, let alone embrace.

Yet, ALLAH guides whom He wills.

As time passed, Peter began to notice certain things that quietly caught his attention. He observed the modesty and dignity of Muslim women in the way they dressed. He also noticed the discipline, humility, and respect shown by Muslims when they entered the mosque—how they removed their shoes, lowered their voices, and carried themselves with reverence. These actions stood in contrast to what he had previously heard about Islam.

Curiosity slowly replaced prejudice.

Questions began forming in his heart. What teaches these people to live this way? Where does this discipline come from? Wanting answers, Peter approached one of the Muslims and asked about the source of their practices and behavior. The response was simple yet powerful: “These teachings come from the commandments of ALLAH.”

That answer stayed with him and planted a seed in his heart.

By the will and mercy of ALLAH, members of iERA, Brother Yaaqoob Wakati and Brother Ashraf Mwako, later visited Mbingwa Village to share the message of Islam. When Peter heard that Muslims had arrived in his village, he did not hesitate. In fact, he was among the first people to come forward, eager to listen and learn more about the faith that had been quietly stirring his curiosity.

During the sessions, Peter listened attentively as the message of Islam was explained clearly and peacefully—especially the teaching of Tawheed, the absolute Oneness of ALLAH, and the purpose of human life. As the message unfolded, many of the misconceptions he once held were corrected. What he heard resonated deeply with his heart and aligned with the truth he had been searching for.

With sincerity, reflection, and humility, Peter realized that this was the truth he could no longer ignore.

By the guidance of ALLAH, he made a brave and life-changing decision. He accepted Islam, submitting himself to the worship of ALLAH alone. Alhamdulillah, Peter Mbingwa embraced the Deen with conviction, leaving behind misunderstanding for clarity, and doubt for certainty.

His journey stands as a reminder that guidance comes from ALLAH alone, and that sincere hearts—when open to truth—are never left astray.

May ALLAH grant Brother Peter steadfastness, beneficial knowledge, and a deep understanding of the Deen. May He also guide many others through his story. Ameen.
