From Roots to Rebirth: A Father’s Journey to Ismael

It was a quiet afternoon in rural Uganda, the kind where the heat settles over the land and time seems to slow down. Henry, a 46-year-old father of three, was resting at his home, likely unaware that the knock at his door would redefine his family’s legacy forever.

The iERA Uganda dawah team arrived with a renewed energy this February, carrying a message they were eager to share. When they met Henry, they didn’t just offer a lecture; they offered a conversation that bridged the gap between his existing faith and the teachings of Islam.

The conversation took a profound turn when the dawah team began to discuss the life of Jesus (Isa). To help Henry truly connect with the message, the team demonstrated how Jesus prayed—prostrating with his face to the ground in total submission to the Creator.

They explained that this path wasn’t a “new” religion, but a continuation of the same way of life practiced by all the Prophets. This realization resonated deeply with Henry. Seeing the physical and spiritual connection between the prophets he respected and the way Muslims worship today provided the clarity he had been seeking.

Satisfied and moved by the truth he had witnessed, Henry didn’t want to embark on this journey alone. He called his entire family together, sharing the message with them. In a beautiful display of unity, the entire household decided to embrace Islam together.

As they took their Shahada, their transition was marked by the taking of new names—symbols of their fresh start and spiritual rebirth:

Original NameNew Muslim Name
Henry (Father)Ismael
Kafeero Festo JuniorHuzaifa
Nassali JemimaJamira
Nakanjako JoviaAmina

The air in the village was thick with emotion as the family began their journey as Muslims. May Allah accept the efforts of the iERA team and steadfastly guide Ismael and his family on this new path.
