From Christianity to Islam Twice

My name is Eliza Namuhaya, and I am from Chithenga Village in Mulanje. I was born and raised as a Christian and spent my young age praying at the CCAP church. In 2010, I got married to a Muslim man, and because of marriage, I accepted Islam and followed my husband’s religion. In our culture, it is common for a wife to follow her husband’s faith. However, after I became Muslim, many of my family members started hating me because of my decision, but I always told them that every person will die alone and answer to God alone.

In 2020, my husband and I got divorced. After the divorce, I returned to Christianity and started going to church every Sunday again. Because I had returned to my former religion, my family members welcomed me back and started loving me again. They were happy that I had left Islam and returned to Christianity.

One day, a dawah team from iERA came to our village doing door-to-door dawah. They visited my house and spoke with me about Islam. During our discussion, I told them that I had once been Muslim but returned to Christianity after my divorce. They asked me if I had faced any difficulties in Islam as a woman, and I answered honestly that Islam is a good religion and that I had not left because Islam was bad, but because I became careless and lost focus.

After thinking deeply about the goodness and teachings I had seen in Islam, I decided to take my Shahadah again and return to Islam sincerely. When my family heard about my decision, they became angry and told me that I was no longer part of their family. But I told them that Islam is a good religion that helps me in my daily life, and that God is always with me even if people reject me. Today, I am strong in my faith as a Muslim, and no one can change my religion except God alone.
