How Truth Sobered a Wandering Soul

For most of his life, the man known as Yokana walked a path laid out for him by others. Raised strictly within the Seventh-day Adventist faith, his childhood was bound by rituals and rules. But as the years pressed on, the gears of his devotion began to grind to a halt. The spiritual fulfillment he had been promised felt distant, hollow, and ultimately, empty.

Disillusioned and feeling betrayed by the very concept of religion, Yokana walked away from his faith entirely.

To numb the growing void left by his skepticism, he turned to the bottle. What started as an escape quickly spiraled into a severe alcohol addiction. In his mind, if religion had no benefit, then the world had no rules, and the bottom of a glass was as good a place as any to hide from the truth.

Then came an encounter that would shatter his cynicism.

Yokana crossed paths with da’ees (Islamic propagation educators) from iERA (Islamic Education and Research Academy). Expecting the same old religious rhetoric, Yokana instead found himself listening to a profound, logical breakdown of prophethood and the core tenets of Islam.

The educators didn’t just preach; they connected the dots. They explained that Islam wasn’t a radical departure from the prophets of old, but rather the ultimate continuation of their legacy. They showed him how Islam is the only faith today that truly aligns with the actions, submission, and teachings of all the historic prophets—from Abraham to Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all).

For Yokana, the clarity was blinding. The truth resonated so deeply that he didn’t offer a single objection, doubt, or further question. The spiritual fog—and the urge to escape through alcohol—cleared instantly in the light of conviction.

Right then and there, Yokana chose to embrace Islam.

Stepping out of the shadows of his past and into the clarity of his new faith, he decided to mark this profound rebirth with a new identity. Today, he has shed the name Yokana and proudly carries the name Hussein, a symbol of a man who stopped wandering, found his purpose, and finally came home to the truth.
