It was an ordinary day, but for 87-year-old Alice, it would become a day she would never forget.
As part of their da’wah efforts, iERA daees went door to door, sharing the message of Islam and inviting people to learn about the oneness of God. Along the way, they met Alice, an elderly woman sitting peacefully in her home.
They greeted her warmly and began speaking to her about Islam, explaining the beauty of worshipping one God and living a life devoted to Him.
“Do you know that God is One?” they asked. Alice smiled and replied, “Yes, I know that God is One. God is Jesus.”
The daees listened respectfully before gently explaining the Islamic understanding of Jesus. They told her that, according to Islam, Jesus—known as Isa—is not God, but a noble messenger of God.
Alice was surprised. “But since I was a child, I was taught that Jesus is God,” she said.
The daees continued to explain that Jesus was born to Maryam (Mary). He was a messenger of God. They explained that God, unlike His creation, was not born and does not give birth.
The conversation touched Alice deeply. As she reflected on what she had heard, her heart began to open to the message. “I would love to become Muslim,” she said, “but I am 87 years old. I cannot manage all these daily activities.”
The daees reassured her that Islam was not sent to make people’s lives unnecessarily difficult. They explained that Islam is a religion of ease, mercy and sincere worship, and that a person takes steps toward God according to their ability.
Alice listened carefully. Her doubts faded, and conviction took their place. Then, at the age of 87, Alice made a decision that would change the course of her life. With sincerity and faith, she took the Shahadah, declaring her belief in the oneness of God.
From that moment, Alice began a new chapter of her life. She chose the name Sarah—a name that would mark the beginning of her journey as a Muslim.
Her story is a beautiful reminder that guidance can come at any age. It is never too late to search for the truth, to turn to God, and to begin anew.
